First Nations Engagement Officer- Cairns Full-time Position
North Queensland Land Council (NQLC) is a Native Title Representative Body appointed under the Native Title Act 1993. NQLC’s region covers approximately 943,300 km2 of lands and waters and is appointed by the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA), to assist Aboriginal people with all aspects of their native title claims.
The NQLC is seeking a First Nations Engagement Officer to work as part of the Claims Team under the direction of the Principal Legal Officer. The role will involve facilitating communications, community engagement and consultation processes between NQLC staff and First Nations constituents to help meet statutory obligations and corporate goals. The First Nations Engagement Officer will serve as the main contact for First Nations constituents regarding native title claims, ensuring they are informed about meetings and relevant matters.
Applicants must be achievement oriented, have strong written and verbal communication skills, be flexible and adaptable and have the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
This position is identified as an Indigenous role, and it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.
