LEON YEATMAN APPOINTED AS CEO OF NORTH QUEENSLAND LAND COUNCIL

The North Queensland Land Council (NQLC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Leon Yeatman as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective immediately.

As CEO, Mr. Yeatman will play a pivotal role in driving forward the NQLC’s vision for the region. This vision encompasses the legal recognition of native title rights and interests for every traditional owner, leading to an environment where Aboriginal people can thrive economically, socially, and culturally through the secure possession of their ancestral lands and waters.

Leon’s appointment brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to NQLC. His strong commitment to Indigenous rights, combined with his proven leadership skills spanning three decades, make him an excellent choice to lead the NQLC. With his guidance, NQLC is poised to make significant strides in supporting and advocating for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in North Queensland.

Prior to joining NQLC, Mr. Yeatman served in various senior management positions, demonstrating a track record of successful strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and project implementation. His dedication to supporting and advocating for Indigenous communities aligns perfectly with the mission and values of NQLC.

Speaking about his appointment, Mr. Yeatman expressed his excitement and commitment to the role, stating, “It is an honour and a privilege to join the North Queensland Land Council as CEO. I look forward to working collaboratively to achieve meaningful outcomes for the people of our region.”

The NQLC Board extends its gratitude to Rhonda M Jacobsen (Jake) as Interim CEO, acknowledging her valuable contributions and leadership during the last 15 months.
