About NQLC
North Queensland Land Council Aboriginal Corporation (NQLC) is the Native Title Representative Body (NTRB) delivering native title services in North Queensland. NQLC is run by a First Nations board of directors, representing several native title groups, each of whom have their own language, culture, traditions and protocols.
NQLC’s region is as diverse in its landscapes as it is in its culture, covering the marine environment of the Great Barrier Reef, the Central Queensland Coast, Brigalow Belt, Wet Tropics of the coastal and upland areas, Einasleigh Uplands and Desert Uplands, Mitchell Grass Downs and the Savannah Gulf Plains.
NQLC services include advising on and conducting native title claims from initial research to determination; support for registered native title claimants and prescribed bodies corporate (PBCs) seeking assistance with future act matters including mining and exploration and other infrastructure projects; advice and assistance on cultural heritage management; negotiation and drafting of
Indigenous land use agreements including logistical and other support during negotiations and in agreement implementation; and support for PBCs to strengthen and consolidate administrative and management practices.

About the Role
NQLC is currently seeking a full time Legal Administration Officer to join the NQLC’s Claims Team in our Townsville office. In this role, you will provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to the in-house solicitors within the Legal Unit of the Claims Team. Their work primarily involves matters before the Federal Court of Australia. You will also assist with general administrative tasks across the NQLC as required.

- Timely and accurate presentation of word processing and other documents.
- Demonstrated experience in managing sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Excellent record keeping and filing skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work both as a team member, and unsupervised.
- Punctuality.
- Ability to communicate with Indigenous clients.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrated ability to prepare correspondence/documents in an effective and efficient manner.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with and communicate appropriately with Indigenous clients.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-skill while ensuring a high level of attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised, to organise workloads and to work under pressure.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a team player.
- High level of general office and administrative skills.
- Current Manual Qld Driver’s Licence.
Note: Some out of office work to attend meetings and travel to outlying areas
may be required.
