NOTICE OF JIRRBAL AUTHORISATION MEETINGS
Jirrbal People #4 (QUD983/2015) Native Title Claim
North Queensland Land Council (NQLC) will hold two authorisation meetings on Tuesday, 6 December 2022 to which all members of the Jirrbal People #4 native title claim group are invited. NQLC strongly encourages attendance at these important meetings as it is proposed that the claim group will make binding decisions about the Jirrbal People #4 claim.
Date: Tuesday, 6 December 2022
Venue: Atherton International Club 60 Kennedy Hwy, Atherton
Registration opens: from 8:30am
Meeting start: 9:30am
Meeting finish: 4:00pm
MEETING 1 STARTS AT 9:30AM
The first meeting is for all members of the Jirrbal People #4 claim group, as presently described below to consider, and if appropriate:
- AUTHORISE an amendment to the claim group description by adding an additional apical ancestor, Sam Boyd. If this amendment is authorised, it will mean that the descendants of Sam Boyd, who are not also descendants of any current Jirrbal apical ancestor, would be included as members of the Jirrbal People #4 claim group thereafter.
*Important note: Persons who are proposed to be added to the claim group, being the descendants of Sam Boyd who are not also descendants of any current Jirrbal apical ancestor, may attend the first meeting but cannot participate in any decision making during the first meeting. If the amendment to the claim group description to add Sam Boyd as a Jirrbal apical ancestor is authorised, his descendants will be invited to participate in decision making at the second meeting.
MEETING 2 STARTS AT 11:00AM
The second meeting is for all members of the Jirrbal People #4 claim group, including the descendants of Sam Boyd if the first meeting authorises the amendment of the claim group description, to consider, and if appropriate:
- ENDORSE the decision to amend the Jirrbal People #4 claim group description to add Sam Boyd as an apical ancestor.
- AUTHORISE the withdrawal or dismissal of the ‘Northern Part B Area’ of the Jirrbal People #4 claim.
- AGREE to share the ‘Southern Part B Area’ of the Jirrbal People #4 claim with the Warrungnu People.
- AGREE to the Warrungnu People lodging an overlapping native title claim over the ‘Southern Part B Area’.
