I am pleased to announce the results of the recent Ward Meetings, which were held in each of NQLC’s 10 representative wards on Saturday, 21 October 2023.

• Charters Towers/Hughenden Ward: Mr Richard Hoolihan
• Innisfail Ward: Ms Rona Hart
• Mackay/Proserpine Ward: Mr Ross Sauney
• Mt Garnet Ward: Mr Danny Hooligan
• Tablelands Ward: Ms Joann Schmider and Ms Tracey Joseph
• Palm Island Ward: Mr Alf Lacey
• Townsville/Ayr Ward: Ms Angelina Akee
• Tully Ward: Ms Nicole Huxley
• Yarrabah Ward: Mr Errol (Mala) Neal

The appointed directors have all met the necessary criteria for accepting their nominations, understanding their director responsibilities, and have provided their Director Identification Numbers.

The first Board of Director Meeting will convene in late November 2023, where executive positions on the Board (Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, Treasurer and Correspondence Secretary) will be determined. Current office bearers will continue to fulfill their responsibilities until the transition is completed.

Congratulations are given to our new and returning directors. Your leadership and strategic focus will play a pivotal role in maintaining confidence and achieving positive results in alignment with our business plans. The direction of the North Queensland Land Council is in good hands.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to our outgoing directors: Mr Gary Mooney, Ms Kayleen Malthouse and Ms Delena Foster for their significant contributions to the North Queensland Land Council during their tenure. We wish them all the very best in their future endeavours. A special note of thanks goes to Mr Gary Mooney, who has been a dedicated member of the Board since 2009. Mr Mooney’s unwavering commitment and invaluable contributions have left a positive mark on our organisation, and we are profoundly grateful for his longstanding service and the legacy he leaves behind.

We are excited to see the positive impact that this dedicated team of directors will bring to the NQLC over the next two years.
